American Splendor: Our Movie Year
Written by Harvey Pekar
Illustrated by Robert Crumb, Gary Dumm, Josh Neufeld, Ed Piskor, Frank Stack, Joe Zabel and Mark Zingarelli.
First published in 1976, American Splendor is a humorous autobiographic series of graphic novels written by the subject, Harvey Pekar himself, and illustrated by various underground artists. The series follows Pekar’s mundane life as a hospital file clerk. Through his depression and obsessions, Pekar solves his problems by using sharp observations of our culture.
Our Movie Year is Pekar’s pessimistic perspective of his rise from hospital clerk to walking Hollywood’s red carpet due to the film’s production. “A lot of funny things can happen in a year, and many of them happened to Harvey.” (amazon.com)
